Honda v/s Bajaj: Honda continues its lead on Bajaj in June, 2012

From the month of March, the war of second spot in Domestic two wheeler market begun between Bajaj and Honda. Honda displaced Bajaj in the month of March and Bajaj displaced Honda in the month of April. For the month of May again Honda displaced Bajaj from the second spot. The story remained the same in the month of June too. Honda managed to post healthy lead on Bajaj Auto in June 2012.  HMSI managed to dispatch 2,16,208 units of two wheelers compared to Bajaj Auto’s 2,11,510 units which resulted in a lead of 4,698 units.

HMSI sold 2,16,208 units of two wheeler in the June 2012 up by 57.07% compared to 1,37,655 units of two wheeler in the month of June 2011. HMSI sold 1,20,893 units of scooters in the June 2012 up by 58.42% compared to 76,310 units in the month of June 2011. The company sold 95,315 units of motorcycle in the June 2012 up by 55.38% compared to 61,345 units of motorcycle in the June 2011. Both motorcycle and scooter has posted growth in the same trajectory. HMSI has benefited from the launch of Dream Yuga and it will continue to bring in more sales as other states are covered.

Bajaj Auto sold 2,11,510 units of motorcycle in the June 2012 up by 1.25% compared to 2,08,883 units of motorcycle in June 2011. This is the first month where Bajaj Auto has posted positive growth in domestic market after few sluggish months. The incremental units in the domestic market has came from newly launched Pulsar 200NS and Discover 125ST. Bajaj Auto manage to sell 2,200 units of Pulsar 200NS and 2,300 units of Discover 125ST. These sales figures are only for the state of Maharashtra. Bajaj Auto is planning to sell 5,000 units of Pulsar 200NS and 10,000 units of Discover 125 ST in the month of July and then will gradually increase this number to nearby 35,000 units of combined sales by September.

Bajaj Vs Honda in 2012

In the month of May 2012 HMSI sold 2,12,457 units in domestic market compared to 2,06,751 units of Bajaj Auto. HMSI has lead of 10,404 units over Bajaj Auto for the month of May and June 2012. However for April-June 2012 quarter there is a negligible difference between Bajaj Auto and HMSI as Bajaj Auto posted a huge lead in the month of April 2012. It seems that Bajaj Auto will lead in the month of July on the back of new launches and then the story will continue as the festive season will come. However, let’s see if HMSI manage to lead in July also.
